As mentioned in our previous blog post, rosacea is an issue I faced for over ten years after the birth of my daughter. I later identified my trigger to be stress. After trying the conventional treatments offered by my medical practitioner and seeing no results, I rejected the last final solution of a long-term course of antibiotics.
Due to this, I began to make my own products from natural ingredients and adjusted my lifestyle to reduce stress and adopt a holistic lifestyle. This cleared my rosacea within months. Here’s what I have learnt during my journey.
Unfortunately, there is no permanent cure for rosacea, but it can be treated and controlled effectively depending on your skin’s response to the treatment.
1. Topical Medications
Topical medications such as azelaic acid or other creams or gels. These contain anti-inflammatory compounds to reduce the redness and inflammation.
2. Antibiotics
In more severe cases of rosacea, it may be necessary to prescribe antibiotics. However, these may or may not work and usually will need to be taken long term. The spots can return with antibiotics and it may be necessary to repeat further courses in the future.
3. Laser Therapy
Laser therapy can be used to reduce redness and minimise the blood vessels. It is extremely important to discuss this fully with a doctor as there are risks to laser therapy. It also may cause hyperpigmentation or ever hypopigmentation in people with brown or black skin.
4. Skincare
As rosacea skin can be very sensitive, try to use good skin products that are free from synthetic chemicals and fragrances.
Do not use abrasive cleansers, instead opt for gentle cream cleansers and very gentle enzyme exfoliants. Also, avoid cleansers containing alcohol as these can be very drying.
We recommend trying our natural and organic botanical oils. Made purely of ingredients that are excellent and hydrating for your skin, our serums are great for dry and sensitive skin. Discover more here.
5. Sun Protection
Sunlight is thought to make the condition worse, so always remember to apply good broad-spectrum. Sunblock helps prevent triggers to rosacea. To learn more about how sun protection helps our skin, click here.
6. Skin Dairy
Keep a skin dairy and note what triggers your flare ups, this helps you identify a pattern so you can avoid the triggers easier.
Alongside this, it is important to take care of your wellness from inside out to ensure a long term solution. Head to our latest blog to find out how.
